The 23rd National Conference of Australian church Women Inc. will be held from 10–14 October 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran College in the suburb of Novar Gardens, Adelaide. (See National Events Page for further information and registration form).

Australian Church Women became incorporated on March 3, 2009. Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to bring this matter to a successful conclusion, especially Mrs Helen Raymond, who as a resident of the ACT will be the National Public Officer. It should be noted that the National Public Officer is required to reside in the ACT.

Australian Church Women Inc. has branches in every State and Territory in Australia. The National Conference of Australian Church Women is held biennially. Each State and Territory has the right to host the National Conference and provide the National Executive in rotation. The 22nd National Conference of Australian Church Women was held from 21-25 September, 2009 in Canberra, ACT.
The National Executive for October 2009 to October 2011 will be based in South Australia. Their Theme for these two years is "Turning Darkness into Light".

Australian Church Women Inc. (ACW)

Beginnings

In 1960 plans were made to facilitate the linking of Women’s Inter-Church Councils already existing in all States and Territories. An Interim Planning committee was set up by the then Australian Council of Churches to draft a Constitution, which was ratified in 1965. The strong
Christian foundation of the Women’s Inter-Church Councils is appreciated and continued by
Australian Church Women today.

Aims/Objectives

Australian Church Women Inc. (ACW) is an umbrella organization of Christian church women’s groups throughout Australia which aims to provide opportunities for women from different denominations to worship, study and serve the community together.

    The aims and objectives of ACW are to:

  • Promote the ecumenical spirit in everything undertaken by Australian Church Women;
  • Unite Christian women;
  • Promote co-operation, understanding and reconciliation between men and women in Church, family and society;
  • Help Christian women to take a more effective place in the total life and mission of the Church, and
  • Encourage fellowship, service and understanding nationally and internationally.
    Australian Church Women Inc. supports :-

  • The Fellowship of The Least Coin, a global movement of prayer for peace, justice and reconciliation;
  • And is responsible for the Winifred Kiek Scholarship Fund which enables women to do further study in an area which will better equip them for service in the church and community
  • Encourages the observance of the World Day of Prayer;

  • Participates in the Asian Church Women’s Conference through an Australian representative on the General Committee

  • Maintains relationships and dialogue with the National Council of Churches and other ecumenical bodies and member denominations.
  • Membership:
    Women’s organizations from most of the mainstream churches are affiliates, including Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Churches of Christ, Presbyterian, Salvation Army and Uniting Church in Australia.
